Using our online subscription databases
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I search online databases from home?

Yes, you can access most of our online databases from home or from any computer anywhere in Tasmania, free of charge, provided you are a LINC library member. More on membership...

Some databases and CD-ROMs are accessible only from within the library building. These include Ancestry Library Edition, The Emerald Management ejournals, and Australian Standards On-line Premium. If you don't find what you need when you are searching from home, visit us or ask us.

How do I logon to a database from home?

First, find an online database and click on its title. A logon screen will appear. Enter your LINC library barcode and the password (usually your phone number) that appears on your LINC Tasmania record. Then click on submit to open up the database.

I have logged on from home but can’t proceed due to an error message. Why?

There are several possible explanations. We have checklist to work through prior to contacting us:

Is the database available from home?

Our online subscription databases are available from home, except for Australian Standards On-line Premium, The Emerald Management ejournals, and Ancestry Library Edition. Databases are listed on our website and catalogue with an icon to indicate the conditions of access. Clicking on the icon next to a database title will give more information about where the database is available.

Has your LINC lLibrary card expired?

If you haven't used your library card recently it may have expired. Check its currency with your local LINC Library.

Are you using the correct phone number or password?

This is the phone number that you gave us when you joined LINC Tasmania (the library). If you are not sure what number to use, check with your local LINC Library. Enter the number without the 03 prefix and without spaces.

Your LINC Library card is current, your phone number is correct but you are still unable to access the database.

Try clearing your web browser's cache. Instructions on how to do this can be found at http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html

You have checked all of the above suggestions but you are still unable to access the database.

Please contact us and our staff will investigate the problem for you.

Are there any conditions affecting my use of LINC Tasmania's online subscription databases?

  • Only registered members of LINC Tasmania have access to the online subscription databases from computers outside our premises. To become a registered member, you need a library card.
