Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How much does it cost to use LINC Tasmania’s services?

Most services are free for Tasmanians although some have cost recovery fees. More information…

Are there any fees for using LINC Tasmania’s library services?

No, there are no membership fees, and you can borrow items and access reference items for free. However, there is an overdue fine for items not returned on time and for lost items, and a fee for lost library cards. More information...

Can I borrow items if I have money owing on my membership card?

Yes, provided the amount you owe is less than $10.

If I find a lost item I have already paid for, can I get my money back?

Yes, as long as it is returned within 3 months of you paying for it.  Please bring the lost item back to your local LINC library.

Instead of paying for a lost item, can I provide a replacement copy and give it to the library?

Yes, as long as the copy is the same item and is in good repair.  In this instance, the processing fee is still payable.

How can I make a payment on my library fines?

You can make a payment on your library card fines at any LINC library.

How do I pay for copies I have ordered?

In most cases you must pay for the copies upfront when you order them in person through any LINC. Currently other orders are invoiced, and payment details are included on the invoice.

Is there a fee for publishing or broadcasting copies of heritage items from your collection?

No, provided we hold the copyright in the item, but you need to ask permission and cite the item correctly.

We generally do not hold the copyright on other (lending and reference) library items and you need to contact the copyright owner. Copies are only provided for personal use only in accordance with Copyright Requirements.
