The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts is one of LINC Tasmaniaís Heritage Collections. It includes a nationally significant holdings of Tasmanian colonial paintings. It also contains photographs, rare books, manuscripts and English and European decorative arts and furniture. Many items are unique or very rare.
The Allport is a living collection, thanks to the generosity of Henry Allport. He left his collection to the people of Tasmania at his death in 1965. It was a memorial to his family who came to Van Diemenís Land in 1831. He also left money in his will to be invested in a trust. Since 1966, the income from these investments has enabled the collection to grow and flourish.
