The izone brings together the combined resources and services of the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office and the State Library Reference Service.

A public car park is located opposite the library in Bathurst Street which can be accessed via Melville Street.

izone facilities & services

The izone contains the main reference service for the State and a help desk for assistance with access to the most frequently used Tasmanian material. It is accessible by lift. Lockers are provided for clients. The izone offers:

  • Access to a range of local and international magazines and newspapers, frequently used reference books including Tasmanian subjects, magazines, maps, government records, non-state records, parliamentary papers, CDROM indexes and databases
  • Personal assistance from archival and library specialists for all your information and research needs
  • Individual and group study areas
  • Comfortable reading spaces for browsing magazines and newspapers
  • A dedicated family history area
  • Microspace - providing access to electoral rolls, Tasmanian newspapers and many archival records and items on microfilm and microfiche (closes at 6.00pm on Fridays). 
  • Card indexes to early Tasmanian records
  • Access to the History Room, a secure area for viewing Tasmania's unique documentary heritage
  • Free PCs and internet. Microsoft Office available including Excel and Publisher
  • Photocopiers and printers
  • Image reproduction service
