On 8 April 1964 Dr William Crowther donated to the State Library of Tasmania his substantial collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, works of art and objects. Included was an outstanding collection of whaling logbooks, scrimshaw and a first edition of Henry Savery's The hermit in Van Diemen's Land.
