  • Library of Congress   
    Essentially the national library of the USA,  this is the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world.
  • British Library
    The national library of the United Kingdom, and the world's largest library in terms of total number of items.

Archives

The National Archives of Australia holds the records of the Commonwealth government. State and Territory archives hold the records of government for their respective jurisdiction. Some archive websites allow users to freely search indexes to the material held in that archive such as immigration, convict records, census, court records, hospitals, divorce, land, patents and more.


Digital

  • Our Digital Island
    A project which provide access to Tasmanian websites that have been preserved for posterity.
  • STORS
    Free long-term storage of, and access to, Tasmanian electronic documents, otherwise unavailable in paper form.

    A National Library free search engine whose content is largely digital, and includes pictures, unpublished manuscripts, books, oral histories, music, videos, research papers, diaries, letters, maps, archived websites and Australian newspapers from 1803 to 1954.
