Document delivery and interlibrary loans

If we do not hold a copy of a particular book, report, article or other publication that you would like to view, we may be able to obtain a copy from an interstate or overseas library.

Also, if you live outside the Hobart area, we may be able to send reference items to your local library for you to view.

How do I request an interlibrary loan of a book or the supply of photocopies?

For books only, please complete and submit the following:

Reference book request form

For copies only, please complete and submit one of the following:

Journal/magazine article request form

Newspaper item request form

Book chapter request form

Does it cost anything?

Yes. Charges can be viewed on the fees and charges page.

How long will it take?

Items will generally arrive a couple of weeks after the request has been made. If an item is needed urgently, we can organise a rush service for an extra charge.

Can I take the item out of the library?

No. You are only permitted to view the item within the requesting library.

Can I request a journal article?

Yes. You may also request a photocopy of a journal article. You may keep any photocopies.

Can I request items from interstate libraries myself?

Yes. Trove provides access to the national database of material held in Australian libraries.  If you know your request is available at one of the following libraries, you can deal directly with that library by clicking on its name.
