Volunteering with LINC Tasmania

The LINC Tasmania Volunteer program offers a friendly environment and rewarding opportunities to support your community in a variety of roles connected with information access, adult learning opportunities, archives and heritage programs and services, information technologies and the internet.

Our volunteers work in partnership with Service Coordinators and staff in Learning and Information Network Centres (LINCs) located in Burnie, Devonport, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huonville, Kingston, Launceston, Rosny, in larger branch libraries and Online Access Centres located in rural and regional centres, and in the Tasmanian Archives and Heritage Office.

Without volunteers, our ability to provide clients with support in using many of our services would be significantly reduced.

Volunteer Roles

There are four main volunteer roles within the LINC Tasmania 

 
• LINC, Library and OAC Volunteers
  
  • Providing one-to-one assistance to clients with a range of computer questions, issues and tasks
  • Assisting clients to use family history resources
  • Helping with children's programs

• Volunteer Library Couriers
  
  • Delivering and returning library items to home bound clients

• Adult and Family Literacy Volunteer Tutors
  
  • Providing learning support for individuals and or groups of learners using strategies determined and overseen by an Adult Literacy Coordinator.  More information...

• Tasmanian Archives and Heritage Office (TAHO)/Reference and Online Services (ROS) Volunteers
  
  • Transcribing manuscripts
  • Assisting clients to use family history resources
  • Assisting with microfilm/microfiche projects

The tasks listed above are some samples of the kind of work you might become involved in. Opportunities vary from site to site.
