Library and OAC Volunteer generic statement of duties
The role
To contribute to, and support the range of programs and services provided by the LINC, Library or Online Access Centre.
Duties
These may include but are not limited to the following duties.
- Prepare for, and provide, children’s activities e.g. Story Time and / or Rock & Rhyme sessions.
- Provide one to one assistance to clients with a range of computer questions, issues and tasks.
- Indexing.
- Take client bookings face to face or via the phone.
- Sort book sale stock and assist in the running of book sales.
- Photocopy, laminate and file documents and materials.
- Assist with family history queries.
- Assist with microfilm / microfiche projects.
- Organise, rewind and shelf check the recorded book section.
- Stack shelves.
- Organise displays.
- Clean books.
- Record your volunteer hours, using the appropriate form or volunteer book, at the end of each shift.
- Undertake other duties as required.
Direction/ supervision
Receives direction from library staff related to the programs and services provided by the library.
Essential requirements
- A satisfactory good character check is required before becoming a Library and OAC Volunteer.
- Be punctual in arriving for any rostered shifts, and if unable to make the commitment, contact the responsible staff member, preferably 24 hours before the allocated shift.
Desirable requirements
- Have good communication, organisational and listening skills.
- Ability to be sensitive, patient, understanding and respectful of clients’ needs.
- Willingness to be flexible and enthusiastic.
- A sense of humour.
