VOLUNTEER STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office Volunteer
The role
To contribute to, and support the range of, programs and services provided by the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office.
Duties
These may include but are not limited to:
- Transcription of manuscripts
- Indexing
- Data entry
- Sorting ephemera
- Basic preservation activities
- Assisting family historians in Public Access facilities
- Guiding in the Allport Museum
Direction/ Supervision
Receives direction and supervision from TAHO staff related to the programs and services provided by TAHO.
Essential requirements
- A satisfactory good character check is required before becoming a TAHO Volunteer.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be punctual in arriving for any rostered shifts, and if unable to make the commitment, contact the Coordinator, preferably 24 hours before the allocated shift.
- Record your volunteer hours in the Volunteer Book at the end of each shift.
Desirable requirements
- Have basic computer literacy.
- Interest in and/or knowledge of the following areas; Tasmanian history, art, ceramics, ephemera, film, literature.
- The ability to read 19th century handwriting.
- Have good communication, organisational and listening skills.
- Ability to be sensitive, patient, understanding and respectful of clients’ needs.
- Willingness to be flexible and enthusiastic.
- A sense of humour.
