Notes

  • Divorce records are restricted for 50 years from current date
  • The Matrimonial Causes Act came into effect in Tasmania on 4 October 1860. The legislation gave the Supreme Court power to rule on all matrimonial matters including divorce.
  • The Supreme Court has kept indexes to records post-1920. Please contact them for case file numbers.
  • Since 1976 the Commonwealth Family Law Court has handled divorce issues.
