Notes
- If a person rented a place to live or lived with their employer, the only records about them may be census records, post office directories, electoral rolls and assessment rolls.
- Tracing where ex-convicts lived can sometimes be difficult. Often they left the state, or changed their name.
- You can sometimes find information about where someone lived when searching other records, such as birth, death or marriage registration, wills and so forth.

Digitised indexes can also be useful. See particularly the Wayn and Whitfield indexes.
